How does a treatment work?
The first appointment
During the first appointment, we take the time to discuss your symptoms, overall health, and lifestyle. We look not only at the reason for your visit, but also at your health as a whole.
Through an in-depth consultation, along with tongue and pulse diagnosis, I build a complete picture of what is happening in your body. Together, we explore which patterns may be out of balance and how acupuncture can help restore that balance.
Based on this, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and health goals.
The treatment
Following the consultation, we begin the treatment. The acupuncture needles are extremely fine and are barely felt by most people. You may experience a slight tingling sensation, warmth, or a feeling of heaviness. These are normal responses of the body.
Once all needles have been placed, you will rest comfortably for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Many people find this a deeply relaxing experience, and some even fall asleep.
Depending on your symptoms, the treatment may also be complemented with techniques such as cupping, moxa, Tuina massage, or lifestyle and nutritional advice. Every treatment is tailored to what your body needs at that moment.
Your treatment journey
The number of treatments required varies from person to person. This depends on factors such as the nature of your symptoms, how long they have been present, and how your body responds to treatment.
For long-standing concerns, we usually begin with weekly treatments. As symptoms improve and your body regains balance, appointments can gradually be spaced further apart.
Throughout your treatment journey, we regularly evaluate your progress and adjust the treatment plan whenever necessary.

How do you prepare for a treatment?
You do not need to prepare extensively for an acupuncture treatment. However, there are a few things you can do to help ensure the consultation, diagnosis, and treatment are as comfortable and effective as possible.
- Eat a light meal beforehand. It is best not to arrive with an empty stomach, but also not immediately after a heavy meal.
- Avoid products that may discolour the tongue. For tongue diagnosis, it is helpful if the natural colour and coating of the tongue are clearly visible. Try to avoid foods and drinks such as coffee, turmeric, and other strongly coloured products. It is also best not to scrape or brush your tongue on the day of the treatment.
- Wear comfortable clothing. Clothing that can easily be rolled up above the knees and elbows often makes treatment more comfortable.
- Bring information about any medication or recent medical examinations. This helps me develop the most complete understanding possible of your health situation.
- Give yourself some time to rest after the treatment if possible. Many people experience acupuncture as a deeply relaxing experience. By not returning immediately to a busy schedule, you give your body the opportunity to process the treatment.
What to expect after a treatment?
Everyone responds differently to acupuncture. Some people feel relaxed straight away or notice a greater sense of calm and balance. Others may feel a little tired or notice that their body needs some time to adjust. Both responses are completely normal.
The effects of a treatment often continue for several days afterwards. For this reason, I recommend drinking more water these days and, if possible, taking things a little more slowly.

Frequently asked questions
Is acupuncture covered by health insurance?
Many supplementary health insurance plans cover part or all of the cost of acupuncture treatments. Click here for more information.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people do not find acupuncture painful. The needles are extremely fine and inserted gently. You may experience a slight tingling sensation or mild pressure, but many people find the treatment deeply relaxing.
For those who feel uncomfortable with needles, alternative treatment methods such as massage or moxa may also be used.
I am afraid of needles. Can I still receive treatment?
Yes. Many people feel nervous before their first treatment. During the session, I explain each step carefully and take the time to help you feel comfortable. The treatment is always adapted to what feels right for you.
Are acupuncture needles sterile?
Yes. I use only sterile, single-use needles, which are safely disposed of immediately after use. This ensures that every treatment is carried out safely and hygienically.
How many acupuncture treatments will I typically need?
This varies from person to person and depends on the nature and duration of your symptoms. During the first appointment, we discuss what you can expect and create a personalised treatment plan together.
How long does an acupuncture treatment take?
The initial consultation and treatment take approximately 90 minutes. During this appointment, we discuss your symptoms and health history in detail, perform tongue and pulse diagnosis, and create a personalised treatment plan.
Follow-up treatments typically last around 60 minutes, depending on your symptoms and your body’s needs at that moment.
Does a treatment always consist only of acupuncture?
Not always. Depending on your symptoms, a treatment may also include cupping, moxa, Tuina massage, or lifestyle advice.
Can acupuncture be combined with conventional medical care?
Yes. In many cases, acupuncture can be used alongside conventional medical treatment. If you are receiving care from a GP or specialist, this will naturally be taken into account. Acupuncture is intended to complement, not replace, conventional healthcare.
Is acupuncture scientifically proven to be effective?
Research into acupuncture has grown significantly in recent years, and a substantial body of research has investigated its use for a wide range of health concerns. Acupuncture is widely used around the world and is increasingly integrated into healthcare settings as a complementary treatment. While results vary from person to person, many people experience improvements in their symptoms and overall wellbeing through acupuncture.
Is acupuncture suitable for my situation?
This depends on your individual circumstances and symptoms. During the first appointment, we take the time to look at your health situation in detail.
If you are unsure, feel free to contact me. I would be happy to think along with you.
