Acupuncture for menstrual health

More balance in your cycle, greater trust in your body

Maybe each month, your period comes with symptoms that affect how you feel and function. You may clear your schedule because you know the pain or fatigue is coming. Or you notice that in the days before your period, you feel more emotional, have less energy, or simply do not feel like yourself.

Menstruation is a natural part of the female body, but that does not mean you have to experience significant pain or symptoms every month.

Acupuncture for menstrual symptoms may help restore balance within the body. At Midi Acupunctuur in The Hague, we explore together what your body needs to support a more balanced and harmonious cycle.

Acupuncture for menstrual balance in The Hague

At Midi Acupunctuur in The Hague, I do not only look at the menstrual symptoms themselves, but primarily at the underlying imbalance within the body. Within traditional Chinese medicine, menstruation is seen as an important reflection of overall health.

Symptoms around menstruation can be linked to a variety of factors, such as long-term stress and tension, low energy levels, hormonal changes or digestive imbalances. By identifying these connections, a more complete picture emerges of what your body needs.

Every woman is different. That is why every treatment is personalised and tailored to your body and your cycle.

What can you expect from a treatment?

During your first appointment, we take the time to gain a thorough understanding of your symptoms, overall health and menstrual cycle. Using questions, tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, I build a more complete picture of what is happening in your body. I then explain the patterns I see, what may be out of balance, and how we can work together towards recovery. Based on this, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your situation.

Because menstrual symptoms often develop over a longer period of time, the body usually needs time to restore balance. We schedule treatments at fixed points within your cycle and generally begin with two treatments per month. As your body becomes more balanced and symptoms improve, we gradually reduce the frequency of treatments. Throughout the treatment, we regularly evaluate how things are progressing and adjust the treatment according to what your body needs at that moment.

Why support for menstrual symptoms is important

Women’s health has always been a special area of interest for me. During my graduation thesis, I explored the uterus and its role within traditional Chinese medicine. Since then, I have continued to deepen my knowledge of the menstrual cycle and women’s health.

What I find so fascinating is that every cycle tells its own story. By looking beyond the menstrual symptoms themselves, it is often possible to create more balance in other areas as well. I believe that treatment is not only about reducing symptoms, but also about learning to trust your body again. Perhaps that is one of the most valuable things a treatment can bring.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, many women choose acupuncture for support with menstrual symptoms such as menstrual pain, painful periods, PMS or an irregular menstrual cycle. During the initial consultation, we discuss your symptoms in detail and explore which factors may be contributing to them. Based on this, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your situation.

Research into acupuncture has increased significantly in recent years. Various studies have explored the use of acupuncture for a range of conditions, including menstrual symptoms. While experiences vary from person to person, many women choose acupuncture as a natural way to support their health and wellbeing.

Not necessarily. Many women assume that painful periods are simply something they have to live with. While some discomfort during menstruation can be normal, severe menstrual pain, extreme fatigue or other symptoms that interfere with daily life deserve attention.

If you are unsure whether your symptoms are normal, please feel free to get in touch. I am happy to discuss your situation and think along with you.

Every woman and every menstrual cycle is different. Some women notice that their cycle becomes more balanced or that symptoms begin to improve after a few treatments. For others, the body needs more time. Throughout the treatment process, we regularly evaluate how your body is responding and what you can expect.

That depends on your symptoms. For some menstrual concerns, treatment during menstruation can be particularly beneficial, while in other situations it may be better to schedule treatment at a different point in the cycle. During the initial consultation, we discuss your symptoms and determine together the most appropriate timing for treatment.

Yes, acupuncture can often be combined with conventional healthcare and medication. If you use hormonal contraception, such as the pill, or are receiving treatment from a GP or gynaecologist, this will naturally be taken into account. Acupuncture is intended as a complementary treatment and is not a replacement for regular medical care. Never stop taking prescribed medication without consulting your healthcare provider.

Most people do not experience acupuncture as painful. The needles are very fine and are inserted carefully. You may occasionally feel a mild tingling sensation or slight pressure, which many people actually find relaxing.

For those who feel uncomfortable about needles, alternative treatment methods such as massage or moxa may also be used.

This depends on your individual situation and symptoms. During an initial consultation, we take the time to explore this in detail.

If you are unsure, please feel free to get in touch. I am happy to discuss your situation and think along with you.
