Acupuncture for stress and burnout
More calmness in your body, more energy for life
Perhaps you notice that your mind is never truly quiet. You are constantly busy, easily overstimulated, or feel as though your battery no longer fully recharges. You sleep less well, have little energy, and even during quiet moments it can be difficult to truly relax.
Stress is a normal response of the body. But when tension persists for too long, the body can struggle to recover. Symptoms may gradually build up and eventually have a significant impact on your work, relationships and overall quality of life.
Acupuncture for stress and burnout may help restore a sense of calm and balance within the body. At Midi Acupunctuur in The Hague, we explore together what your body needs to experience greater relaxation and renewed energy.

Acupuncture for stress and burnout in The Hague
Stress does not develop overnight. Tension often builds gradually over time. The body may keep adapting, until it eventually becomes increasingly difficult to recover in between.
Within traditional Chinese medicine, long-term stress is seen as a disruption of the body’s natural balance. As a result, not only mental symptoms may arise, but also physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, sleep difficulties or hormonal imbalances.
That is why, at Midi Acupunctuur in The Hague, I look beyond stress symptoms alone during treatment. Together, we explore how your body is functioning at this moment and which factors may be contributing to your symptoms. By giving the body more space to recover, a greater sense of calm in both body and mind can often begin to emerge.
What can you expect from a treatment?
During your first appointment, we take the time to get to know you and understand your story. We discuss how your stress or burnout symptoms developed, the impact they are having on your daily life, and how your body is responding at this moment. We look not only at your symptoms, but also at factors such as your energy levels, sleep, digestion and how your body handles stress and tension.
Using tongue and pulse diagnosis, I build a more complete picture of the patterns present in your body. I then explain what I see, how these patterns may be connected to your symptoms, and how we can support your body step by step in its recovery. Based on this, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your situation.
When it comes to stress and burnout, treatment is not about getting back to normal as quickly as possible, but about giving your body the space it needs to recover. For this reason, we generally begin with two treatments per month. As you experience more relaxation, energy and resilience, we gradually reduce the frequency of treatments. Throughout the treatment process, we regularly evaluate your progress and adapt the treatment according to what your body needs at that moment.
Calmness begins with attention
Meditation has played an important role in my life for many years. It has taught me how closely the body and mind are connected, and how important it is to slow down and find stillness in a world that is constantly moving.
I bring that experience into every treatment. Not to teach you how to meditate, but to listen with full attention to what your body needs. When you have been asking a lot of yourself for a long time, I believe treatment is not only about relaxation, but also about learning to recognise what your body needs in order to recover.
I approach every treatment with care and attention, creating space for calm, recovery and renewed energy.

Frequently asked questions
Can acupuncture help with stress or burnout?
Yes, many people choose acupuncture when stress-related symptoms or burnout symptoms persist over a longer period of time, or when it becomes difficult to find rest again on their own. Treatment focuses on restoring balance within the body and may help promote relaxation, improve sleep and support recovery. The effects vary from person to person, but acupuncture is often used as a natural form of support for stress and burnout.
Can acupuncture help if stress is affecting my sleep?
Yes. Difficulty sleeping due to stress is very common. You may find it difficult to fall asleep, wake up frequently during the night, or wake up feeling unrefreshed. Because sleep, stress and recovery are closely connected, treatment looks not only at sleep difficulties themselves, but also at the balance of the body as a whole.
Can acupuncture help with overthinking and a busy mind?
Everyone responds differently to treatment. Some people notice after a few sessions that they feel calmer, sleep better or have more energy. For others, the body needs more time to recover. Throughout the treatment process, we regularly evaluate how your body is responding and adjust the treatment accordingly.
How many acupuncture treatments are needed?
Everyone responds differently to treatments. Some people notice after just a few sessions that they feel calmer, sleep better, or have more energy. For others, the body needs more time to recover. Throughout the treatment process, we regularly evaluate how your body is responding and adjust the treatment accordingly.
Is acupuncture proven to be effective for stress and burnout?
Research into acupuncture has increased significantly in recent years. Various studies have explored the use of acupuncture for stress-related symptoms, sleep difficulties and fatigue. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognises stress-related conditions as one of the areas in which acupuncture can be used as a complementary treatment. While experiences vary from person to person, many people choose acupuncture as a natural form of support during periods of stress, overwhelm or recovery from burnout. Acupuncture is often used to promote relaxation, support recovery and help restore a greater sense of balance.
Can I combine acupuncture with treatment from my GP or psychologist?
Yes, acupuncture can often be combined with conventional healthcare. If you are receiving treatment from a GP, psychologist or another healthcare professional, this will naturally be taken into account. Where appropriate, treatment can complement the support you are already receiving. Acupuncture is intended as a complementary treatment and is not a replacement for regular medical care.
Is acupuncture painful?
Most people do not experience acupuncture as painful. The needles are very fine and are inserted carefully. You may occasionally feel a mild tingling sensation or slight pressure, which many people actually find relaxing.
For those who feel uncomfortable about needles, alternative treatment methods such as massage or moxa may also be used.
Is acupuncture suitable for my situation?
This depends on your individual situation and symptoms. During an initial consultation, we take the time to explore this in detail.
If you are unsure, please feel free to get in touch. I am happy to discuss your situation and think along with you.
